ROUTE THROUGH THE DOÑANA PARK AND ITS SURROUNDING AREAS
A wide sand dune fringe formed 2,400 years ago and frequented by multiple animals. This scenery is unique and brings us from Matalascañas to the mouth of the Guadalquivir.
From Matalascañas to Mazagón, 20 km of huge sand beaches invite us to go for a walk and enjoy the sun. In the north the routes start in the village of El Rocio or its surroundings and go through the enclosures and marshlands. They are carried out on board of four-wheel-drives, by carriages or by horse. There are also routes specialized in the ornithology and in fotography.
Visit in the village of Rocio is the Shrine of Our Lady of Rocio. Historically, there is evidence of the then church of Santa Maria de las Rocinas on the banks of the Guadalquivir marshes since the thirteenth century, although legend has it that the image of Our Lady of Rocío, was found in the early fifteenth century, by a Almonte neighbor within a forest full of brambles and very difficult access called the Rocina.
Today, the pilgrimage of El Rocio is one of the most important Marian acts in the world, reaching more concentrated than a million people, infected by the folklore and joy enjoy this popular pilgrimage in honor of the Queen of the Marshes.
