Birthplace of Juan Ramón Jiménez
The Casa Natal Juan Ramón Jiménez is located in Moguer, Province of Huelva (Spain). On 23 December 1881 the Nobel laureate Juan Ramón Jiménez was born in this house. The design of the house was entrusted by the poet's father, Victor Jiménez, to an architect from Seville in the mid-19th century. He selected the Calle Ribera for its proximity to the port of Moguer, to manage his prosperous businesses for the sale and transport of the best Moguer wines. He owned various ships for this purpose, among them the "San Cayetano" to which the poet dedicated a beautiful text. The poet was born in this house on 23 December 1881 and lived in it until he was four years old, when the family moved to the house in the Calle Nueva. Juan Ramón immortalised it in his masterpiece Platero y yo in the chapter "La casa de la calle Ribera" (The house on the Calle Ribera).
